Discover Archery (Intro to Archery) – Ages 6 and Up

From your very first session at Lancaster Archery Academy, you will learn archery etiquette and safety while beginning to develop your shooting form and having fun shooting arrows. Our knowledgeable instructors will work with you to instill the basics of archery and to develop your confidence and competence on the range, creating a solid foundation of knowledge and skill that will allow you to progress in this exciting sport. Archery is ideal for even the youngest participants, as it provides opportunities for growth, achievement and camaraderie. Boys and girls will develop upper body coordination and strength in an active, supportive environment that fosters social skills and provides training in a sport they can enjoy throughout their lives.

Experience Archery

For archers who already have some archery experience, Lancaster Archery Academy provides the instruction and guidance to hone skills and improve form, focus, concentration and shot execution. The Experience Archery class meets for one hour per week over a six-week period. This creates a framework for further competition and develops strength and accuracy as well as confidence and consistency.

Whether you are interested in fun and recreation or looking to further your skills in competitive archery students of all ages will find a comfortable, supportive environment at Lancaster Archery Academy. Our Experience Archery classes are great fun for the whole family and allow archers of all ages and genders to test their skills against one another in a fun and relaxed environment.

Experience Archery – Youth Classes

For young archers who already have already learned the basics or have taken the Discover Archery course, the Experience Archery Youth Class provides the instruction and guidance to hone skills and improve form, focus, concentration and shot execution. Intermediate Archery

Once the fundamentals are in place, our certified archery instructors can provide advanced instruction in competitive techniques. Lancaster Archery Academy’s advanced classes train students to compete at the highest levels in the sport of archery and provide a solid foundation for future success. Our advanced instructional methods help talented students develop their skills effectively. Archers will work towards shooting from the 18 meter line while they learn to group and score their arrows. In intermediate archery, the archer will continue to learn range rules, procedures and etiquette.

USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Certification Course

A Level 2 Instructor works with a more established archery program such as J.O.A.D., A.S.A.P., college clubs and local clubs with a strong beginner component. Level 2 Instructors are also certified to teach Level 1 courses.

The Level 3 course transitions from group instruction and into individual athlete development to grow archery teams among the many programs learned about in the Level 2 . Level 3 Coaches are certified to teach Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

Introduction to Competitive Archery

Are you looking to venture into the world of competitive archery?  If so, then this class is just right for you!  In this 6 week class we focus on preparing your for tournaments and leagues.  With Lancaster Archery Academy's advanced instructors and wide range of competition experience, there are no questions that can go unanswered.  This class will also prepare our young archers for the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Club Program here in the Academy.  Students will learn the rules and regulations of tournaments, equipment expectations and restrictions, tournament preparation, and archer etiquette.  Over the course of the six weeks students will learn varying types of archery scoring and organizations.  **This class has requirements and prerequisites**

Target Archery with Dick Tone

Join us for an intermediate to advanced level, two-day Olympic Recurve Archery course with world-class experts, Dick Tone, Jay Barrs and Tom Stevenson June 9-11, 2017. This course is designed for coaches and experienced archers of age 11 and up looking to advance their skills to the highest level. Tone will teach you the physical dynamics of an archery shot in great detail, but in easily understood terms. Both coaches and archers will gain a comprehensive understanding of what really happens when you shoot a bow. Dick will go into detail how the body reacts to the pressure of the bow, and what must happen once the string is released for accurate and repeatable shooting. The simple physics are key to performing the shot correctly. Learn how an archers form and shot execution affect the dynamics of the shot and therefore accuracy. Dick and Jay will also cover and answer questions on the mental aspects of shooting, handling tournament pressure with a positive attitude, training techniques and drills, tournament preparation. Tom Stevenson will cover your equipment questions with teaching advanced tuning techniques with cutting edge technology. Tom will cover an equipment analysis, accuracy in archery, linking equipment analysis to accuracy, performance measurement, tracking & future score projection, strength & training to reach high end draw weight & performance. Tom will also dive into the differences between developing a high performance setup & tuning a bow and the link between high performance setups and mental confidence.

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification Course

The Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course provides the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety both on and off the archery range. Level 1 Instructors are prepared to teach beginner archery programs to people of all ages and abilities. The Level 1 Instructor will learn about range safety, range setup, the steps of shooting, and basic equipment and repair.

Pre-Nationals Camp

Pre-Nationals Camp                                                                                                                          

We believe that any archer can reach their goals if they practice hard enough, believe in themselves, and keep their eyes on the gold. This summer, the Lancaster Archery Academy is hosting a Pre-Nationals Camp to help archers do exactly that. Join us from July 21st through July 23rd for three days of advanced coaching, group activities, and analysis of mental game. Archers will have the opportunity to meet new friends, and get world-class coaching in a relaxed, positive atmosphere. 

In order to be eligible for this camp, archers must be able to shoot their full FITA competition distance, and be able to provide an official Indoor FITA tournament/JOAD pin shoot score of 240 for recurve, and 240 for compound (inner ten). Alternatively, archers may provide an official Outdoor FITA tournament/JOAD pin shoot score of 270 for recurve, and 300 for compound (both scores to be shot at full competition distance). Indoor scores are to be out of 300; outdoor scores are to be out of 360. The camp will run from 9AM-5PM on Friday, 9AM-6PM on Saturday, and from 9AM-2PM on Sunday. Lancaster Archery will provide archers with lunch for the duration of the camp.

S3DA Basic Instructor Course

This course is designed to give you the knowledge to confidently teach archery and the S3DA program to youth in your area.  This course will give you a comprehensive overview of the S3DA program, equipment used, range set-up, basic archery form, safety in teaching the first shot, S3DA games and Pope & Young Clear Path Bowhunting Initiative.  Instructors will also learn how to build an after school program or team in their area and work hands on with the Pennsylvania State Coordinator, Dan Schuller.

From your very first class at Lancaster Archery Academy, you will begin developing your shooting form and learning to group arrows. Our knowledgeable instructors will work with you to instill the basics of archery and to develop your confidence and competence on the range, creating a solid foundation of knowledge and skill that will allow you to progress in this exciting sport. Archery is an ideal sport for even the youngest competitors, as it provides opportunities for growth, achievement and camaraderie. Scouting Events

Our USA Archery Certified Academy Instructors are a top resource to help your scouts earn their badges. We work with your troop to help them achieve their goals and become knowledgeable archers. We are proud to have an experienced Merit Badge Instructor certified through the Boy Scouts of America on our team. For our Girl Scout Troops, we offer an hour instructional lesson to meet the criteria of the badge you designed. Please contact us to find a day and time that fits best with your troop.

Merit Badge Requirements:

  • Safety
  • Name the parts of an arrow, types of arrows, principal materials of arrows, building and storing arrows
  • Proper use, storage and reasons for archery accessories (tabs, arm guards, finger gloves, quivers etc.)
  • Explaining important terminology
  • Learn to make a bowstring
  • Different types of Archery
  • How to score your arrows on a FITA & NFAA Target
  • Understanding of the Olympic Round
  • With a Recurve Bow Scouts will name the parts of the bow, explain how to care for and store the bow, string the bow, install the nocking point and demonstrate the 10 steps for good shooting.
  • Scouts must score their shooting and achieve a minimum score of 150

The cost for the Merit Badge Course is below. The length of the course varies with the size of the group, but takes approximately 8 hours to complete.

6 people - $100 per person

7 people - $90 per person

8 people - $80 per person

9 people - $75 per person

10 people - $70 per person

11 people - $65 per person

12 people - $60 per person

Girl Scout Archery Badge Classes are $17.99 per person, and generally last for one and a half hours. The course material covers safety, overview and types archery, parts of equipment and bows, shooting form and terms, and lastly how to shoot a bow!
